When we talk about lingerie fabric & underwear fabric, stretch is usually one of the first things people look at. Of course, it indeed matters. When underwear are worn in our body, the fabric has to stretch enough as your body moves during breathing and daily activity. But stretch alone is not the whole story.
But of equal significance to lingerie is that the fabric also sits directly against the skin. So hand feel, weight and drape also become important.
NS439 is made from 86% nylon and 14% spandex, with a weight of only 110 GSM. It is a very light single jersey fabric, made on a circular knitting machine. The fabric has a smooth and slightly shiny surface. And there is a cool and slippery feeling when you touch it. It is thin, but still has good stretch and recovery.
And then there is the drape. Because it is a lightweight fabric, it flows down smoothly like waterfall rather than standing stiff. When you turn this fabric into close‑fitting pieces, this property enables fabric to contour to the body with minimal added bulk. But it is not a compression fabric. That is not what it is made for. It is more about a light and close fit. For underwear that needs to feel smooth, thin and easy to wear, this difference matters.
A lot of it actually comes down to the yarn and how it is knitted
NS439 is manufactured on a specialized superfine denier production line and microfiber with 40D/20D yarn. And it is knitted as a single jersey fabric, which helps keep the construction light and flexible.
The 86% nylon offer a smooth surface and clean appearance. And the 14% spandex provides stretch and recovery. It has a soft drape, smooth surface and slight sheen. When you touch it, the fabric feels cool and slippery, like running your palm over cool silk, rather than dry or bulky.
The fabric also has good stretch in both directions. It features 135% lengthwise elongation and 120% crosswise elongation (starting from 10 cm test sample).
There is another point worth mentioning here. NS439 is designed for piece‑dyeing. The manufacturing process delivers clean, uniform colour results. Color difference can be controlled at Grade 4+. So if you look at the fabric from the production side, it is not only about how it feels in the hand. Cutting, dyeing and sewing all matter too.
The full width is 155 cm and a usable width of about 150 cm. The wider construction can increase cutting-table utilization by about 12% compared with the original product setup.
For lightweight underwear, there is also less fabric volume to deal with during storage and transportation. The lightweight construction can save around 25% in logistics and storage space.
