Why Sportswear becomes stiff after repeated washing? Wash Resistant Fabric
A common trouble for sportswear buyers and designers. If you work on sportswear, you’ve probably seen this annoying problem.
Everything seems good during sampling. The fabric is soft and smooth. It passes all basic lab tests. But after finished clothes go on sale, customers complain after home washes. The fabric turns stiff and dry. It is much less comfortable to wear.
Most customers think bad sewing causes the problem. Actually, the fabric itself is often to blame. Many design teams only touch brand‑new fabric rolls. They don’t test how the fabric behaves after lots of washes. This mistake leads to product returns. It also hurts a brand’s reputation. Our foreign partners talk about this problem quite often.
Why washing makes fabric stiff?
There are two main causes for this issue.
Many fabrics feel soft thanks to silicone on their surface. Normal washing slowly strips away this soft layer. You then feel the dry, hard fibers underneath.
Fibers wear out with real use. Spandex loses stretch after constant pulling and washing. Yarns tighten and stick together. Tap water has minerals. Sweat also gets stuck between yarns. These build up little by little. Each wash makes the fabric harder.
Do not judge fabric only by its fresh‑roll feel. You need to look at the fiber’s real features. Nylon‑spandex blends are naturally smooth. They do not need lots of surface softener chemicals. They stay comfortable even after many washes.
Low‑cost polyester‑spandex fabrics are different. Factories use plenty of chemicals just to get them soft at first. Once these chemicals wash away, comfort drops fast. Pure cotton is not great for sportswear you wear often. Its fibers clump and turn hard after repeated washes.
Our pick: Wingtex NS108 Nylon Spandex Double‑Side Fabric
Many sportswear brands use NS108. It solves real‑world problems: post‑wash stiffness, lost stretch and rough skin feel.

‑ Composition: 72% Nylon +28% Spandex
‑Weight: 210GSM
‑ Width: 150‑155cm 59/61
‑ Construction: Circular‑knit double‑side fabric
It has 28% spandex. It stretches well and bounces back for hard workouts. Double‑side knitting gives soft skin‑friendly touch. It feels much like those popular sportswear fabrics which you can find in stores.
Nylon itself is smooth. We do not add thick surface coatings for softness. Even after many washes, the fabric hardly gets hard. It remains comfortable against skin.
NS108 works reliably in mass production for clothing factories. Its smooth surface cuts fabric waste when workers cut patterns. Our dyeing stays stable. Color differences between batches remain small. It holds OEKO‑TEX certification. It follows market rules for Europe and North America. Several Indian sportswear brands keep buying this fabric. Over 75% of them placed repeat orders in two years.
